    Deep Learning for Robotics Hands-on Workshop

Machine Learning and Deep Learning Boot Camp consists of 8 workshops which cover fundamentals of machine learning to the latest advances of deep learning technologies and their applications. Include access to student community groups and instructors. This is a a live and virtual version of Machine Learning and Deep Learning Boot Camp organized in collaboration with IEEE and ACM by ValleyML.

  • Live Virtual Classes & Colloborative Learning

    This series of Live virtual workshops are focused on explaining the foundations and intuitions of machine learning / deep learning. Registered students have access to the slides, recorded sessions after the live classes, student community rooms.

  • Programming Exercises and Projects

    This series of workshops are focused on hands-on learning with guided programming exercises and applying deep learning techniques to practical applications in Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Robotics, and Intelligent Video Analytics to solve real-world problems. In hands-on workshops, you can work on a project to create and deploy working applications.

  • Given that there are several free resources available on web for machine learning and deep learning, why do I need to take this course?

    While many materials are available online, it is difficult to find the right materials for your learning goal and sometimes even hard to know where to start. Some of them are unstructured and do not have the quality and rigor needed for educational program. This course offers comprehensive coverage of materials from fundamentals to advanced topics including hands-on practices for a specific application such as computer vision, natural language processing, robotics and video analytics. The whole course consists of 8 individual workshops and is organized in such a way that you can learn effectively for your goal. You have a choice to take a complete course, a course for a specific target application or an individual workshop depending on your needs.

  • What are the materials that are provided to the attendees?

    Course slides in PDF and other workshop materials are available on Thinkific platform. In addition, programming examples/exercises are also provided as Jupyter notebooks so that attendees can download from Thinkific and then run them from their browser using Google Colaboratory (a hosted Jupyter notebook environment that is free to use and requires no setup).

  • Will the attendees get IEEE Certificate for Professional Development Hours for this event?

    Yes. This event is reviewed and approved by IEEE continuing Education. Please contact us at the email from which your Eventbrite registration ticket is sent. Apollo AI, who is an approved IEEE Certificate Provider, is working with IEEE (https://www.ieee.org/education/continuing-education.html) to provide this. The quiz for each course needs to passed. A course evaluation form needs to be completed timely (within two weeks after the completion of the Boot Camp). The number of PDH hours depend on the total number of training hours attendees complete. We will send instructions to the attendees after the course on the form that need to be filled.     Note that all the learning materials including slides, course software are available before live lessons. If you are not able to attend a live training session, you can view the recorded session. All the elearning+live training courses on the site are available on a 24 hour refund policy. After 24 hours of registration, no refunds or cancellations would be given. You can also do a free preview of some of the sections in a course.

Kiran Gunnam

Dr. Gunnam is an innovative technology leader with vision and passion who effectively connects with individuals and groups. Dr. Gunnam's breakthrough contributions are in the areas of advanced error correction systems, storage class memory systems and computer vision-based localization & navigation systems. He has helped drive organizations to become industry leaders through ground-breaking technologies. Dr. Gunnam has 75 issued patents and 100+ patent applications/invention disclosures on algorithms, architectures and real-time low-cost implementations for computing, storage and computer vision systems. He is the lead inventor/sole inventor for 90% of them. Dr. Gunnam’s patented work has been already incorporated in more than 2 billion data storage and WiFi chips and is setto continue to be incorporated in more than 500 million chips per year. Dr. Gunnam is also a key contributor to the precise localization and navigation technology commercialized for autonomous aerial refueling and space docking applications. His recent patent pending inventions on low-complexity simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and 3D convolutional neural network (CNN) for object detection, tracking and classification are being commercialized for LiDAR+camera-based perception for autonomous driving and robotic systems. Dr. Gunnam received his MSEE and PhD in Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station. Chief Scientist, Apollo AI Inc.

Koji Seto

Dr. Seto is a Chief Scientist at Apollo AI Inc. He has a broad scientific knowledge in digital signal processing and machine learning. His recent work focuses on deep learning and invented reduced complexity convolutional neural network called ApolloPerceptionNet and developed reduced complexity object detection algorithm. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University. His work in digital signal processing, especially speech/audio coding, includes broad range from algorithm development to implementations on DSP processors. He developed a state-of-the-art speech codec system/software, which resulted in nine papers and a book chapter. He has also worked on wireless communication systems. His work in wireless communications mainly focused on the theory and algorithm, which requires deep understanding of background mathematics and computer simulation skills. Especially his internship experience at Qualcomm includes system level and link level simulation in C++ for 3GPP UMTS/WCDMA. His earlier research work in Japan relates to semiconductor materials, and he engaged in extensive simulation and experiments.

Principal Research Scientist, Apollo AI Inc.

Osso Vahabzadeh

Dr. Vahabzadeh is an expert in graph-based algorithms, detection, estimation and machine learning. His recent work focuses on the development of low-complexity object detection algorithm by utilizing pruning of deep neural networks and graph-based machine learning. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, MA in 2014. His PhD work was on low-complexity algorithms to design graph-based codes, where the developed algorithms were based on belief propagation methods for graph-based codes. He was a recipient of Northeastern University’s Outstanding Graduate Student Award for Teaching in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering in 2012. He joined Symbyon Systems as a Staff Design Engineer shortly after its foundation, where he has played a major role in the company’s efforts in developing graph-based belief propagation solutions for storage and communication applications. At Symbyon, he was the principle contributor to a draft Standard for IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) P1890 Working Group for Error Correction of Flash Memory Using LDPC codes. The proposed proposal was selected as IEEE 1890-2018 Standard.
